An intimate celebration in the Minho

The family house in the Minho

Family heirlooms, a village church and the quiet power of photographing a wedding in the house where the bride grew up.

Some weddings are about a place you chose. Others are about a place that chose you. Beatriz got married in the house where her grandmother was born.

The red shawl on the steps is a piece of traditional Minho embroidery that has been in her family for three generations. We made sure it appeared in the first photograph of them as a married couple.

Details like this are why I ask so many questions before the wedding. The most important objects of the day are rarely on the timeline.

The ring ceremony in the village church
A grandmother’s hands during an embrace
The couple under the trees
